About this event:

A new type of workshop!

Landlord Law has run one day workshops for years, featuring specialist legal trainers, mostly barristers and solicitors.

We are now running combined events – so this workshop will be both an in-person workshop and a live stream virtual event so other delegates, who are unable to travel to the venue, can attend remotely.

Remote attendees will be able to participate in the event by asking questions in the same way that they did in our fully online events.

The Workshop Program:

Topics covered will include

  • The after-effects of COVID
  • The energy efficiency rules
  • Gas and Electricity Regulations
  • Tenant Fees
  • Right to rent
  • Rent to Rent situations, and
  • Rent Repayment Orders, and Enforcement

Note that topics may not necessarily be covered in this order.  We also reserve the right to amend the topics covered to reflect any new issues that may  arise.

We break for lunch between 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm.  There will also be two ‘comfort breaks’ of approximately half an hour, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Your trainer is Sam Madge-Wyld

Sam is a housing barrister specialising in all aspects of landlord and tenant law and is a member of Tanfield Chambers, a specialist property set.  He regularly acts for freeholders, surveyors, property managers and leaseholders throughout the country in the First-Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber), Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber), High Court and county court.

He is the co-author of Defending Possession Proceedings (2022), Service Charges and Management (2022), Housing Law Casebook (2017) and Quiet Enjoyment: Protection from Rogue Landlords (2017).  Sam also co-authors the regular housing law updates from Legal Action Magazine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cancel and get a refund if I am unable to attend?

A: Yes, live stream delegates can cancel at any time up to 12.00 noon on the day of the training and get a full refund. Similarly, in person delegates can cancel up to 12 noon on the day of the event and get a refund unless you are cancelling on the day of the event or during the seven days preceding the event when there will be a £50 cancellation fee (inclusive of VAT). All requests for cancellation should be made via our Green Button support service. This does not affect your statutory rights.

What will happen if you have to cancel or if COVID rules prevent this type of event?

A: Cancellation due to COVID unlikley now but if this situation arises, or if we have to cancel for any other reason, you will be notified. We would probably run the event as a live stream only event.

Note however that we cannot be held responsible for refunding the cost any hotel or other payments (eg for travel) you may have made in connection with this event. Please therefore can you ensure that any hotel or travel booking you make will be cancellable and/or arrange for suitable insurance cover.

I am disabled, will I be able to attend?

A: Unfortunatly the Kimberley Suite, where the in person event will take place, is on the first floor and there is no lift. If you have mobility issues we suggest you book to attend remotely via livestream.

If I book the livestream version but my computer cannot access it, can I get a refund?

A: This is unlikley as we will be using standard browser based software to deliver the live stream, which works well - provided you are using Firefox or Chrome for your internet browser. Mac users should note that the system does not work with Safari (but it is easy to instal Chrome or Firefox on a Mac - you may already be using them). However if you are unable to view the live stream, we will give a full refund , provided you let us know before 12.00 noon on the day of the event.

Will I be able to watch a recording of the event if I cannot attend?

A: Yes. We will be recording the event and the recordings will be loaded up to the delegates page after the event. The recordings will be available for all delegates for a period of three months.

Do I have to pay online? Can I pay on invoice?

A: We prefer people to pay online and most discounts (for example for Landlord Law members) will only be available if you pay online. Note that a VAT invoice/receipt will be emailed to you after payment via our online system. However if you wish to pay on invoice this can be arranged but may be subject to a £10 admin fee.

Can I pay by cash or cheque?

A: No, payments must be made online via our system (where you can pay by card or pay pal) or by BACS if paying on invoice.

I am a Landlord Law member, is this training included in my membership?

A: No, however all Landlord Law membes will get an automatic 10% discount and if you are booking live stream only, the discount for Business Level members will be 20%. All members will be able to offset Landlord Law points.

Will I be able to ask questions?

A: Yes. If you are attending via live stream you will be able to ask questions via the on screen 'chat' box.

I am based in Wales, is this training suitable for me?

A: No. Law in Wales will be changing dramatically on 15 July 2022 and this legal update does not include the new Welsh legislation.

I am based in Scotland, N Ireland or outside the UK, is this training suitable for me?

A: No, unless you own rented property in England. This training is only suitable for landlords or others managing rented property in England UK.

Will there be CPD?

A: Yes, provided you have either signed our delegates list if attending in person or (for live stream delegates) our system shows you have attended all sessions. If you qualify, you will be emailed a CPD certificate after the event. This event carries four hours CPD.

Will I be included in any filming if I attend in person?

A: The cameras will be focused on the speaker rather than the audience, however the audience may appear in some of the shots. If you do not wish to be included in this you should tell our cameraman at the start of the day and ask to be seated out of shot.

I am a Landlord Law member paying online, and am having difficulty offsetting my points

A: Landlord Law points cannot be used with coupons. You will need to decide whether it is most cost effective to use your points or the coupon.

I want to use two coupons but the system won't let me

A: I am afraid you can only use one coupon - so if you have two you will need to decide which one to use. However Landlord Law members can use a coupon and still get their automatic discount.

How do I contact you via the Green Button Messenger service?

A: You can see the green button at the bottom right of your screen. Just click it and type your message in the box. Then click the down arrow below the box to close. Or click here for a short guide (you may need to wait for the popup messages to load).
