The Landlord Law Insurance Mini-Course

June 30, 2019

Landlord InsuranceSome time ago I worked with specialist landlord insurers Alan Boswell Group to create a little ‘mini-course’ on insurance for landlords.

The course gives a brief run-down of all the main things landlords need to consider when choosing their insurance – some of which may not occur to you until its too late!

The course was put on the Landlord Law Blog where anyone can sign up to it for free.  However, you do not get access to all the course at once as the various parts are ‘dripped out’ to you over a period of five days.

I have now brought the course over to this site so you can now read the course all at once!

We also have a useful little checklist which you can print off and use when researching insurance for your properties.

The course is divided into the following parts:

  • Introduction
  • Insurance cover – looking at the important ‘perils’ which landlords need to be protected from when taking out an insurance policy.
  • Fees and Conditions – looking at the hidden charges you can unwittingly incur and the conditions that can put your insurance at risk if you breach them
  • Malice Crime and Tenants – looking at claims based on the conduct of your tenant, for example, cannabis farms and malicious damage
  • Making a claim – looking at what you should and should not do, and the procedures for making a claim on your insurance policy
  • Choosing your insurance – a run-down of the things you need to consider plus access to the pdf checklist

The course features the policies and procedures used by Alan Boswell Group (as that is what the Alan Boswell staff who helped me develop the course knew best).  However, the principles will apply to all policies.
