A new edition of Tenancy Agreements The Complete Course is now online

August 12, 2023

Tenancy Agreement CourseTenancy agreements are important and it is essential that landlords arrange for tenants to sign one before they move in.

However, landlords should not just use any old tenancy agreement.  A tenancy agreement is the document which sets out the rules for your tenancy so it is important that it is

  • Enforceable
  • Protects your position, and
  • Can be understood by your tenants

There is a lot you can do with your tenancy agreement to protect your position as a landlord.  So it is sad that many landlords tend to choose a tenancy agreement at random and appear to think that it is more important that it is short than that it is well drafted.

Tenancy Agreements the Complete Course

I wrote our tenancy agreement course in September 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, to help landlords understand the importance of tenancy agreements and ensure that theirs is the best it can be.

The course is in seven parts as follows:

  • Two parts looking at the legal  background
  • One part discussing why tenancy agreements are confusing
  • A part looking at the various arrangements for shared properties
  • Two parts looking at and explaining individual clauses, and
  • The final part, which covers creating, amending and revising tenancy agreements

There are also a number of bonus items, for example all of our Legal Basics courses and various videos and info blocks.

A new updated version

I have now checked over the course and updated it where necessary and the law is now as at 12 August 2023.

A few things are different from the original course:

  • In view of the new legal regime in Wales, the course no longer covers Welsh agreements (now known as occupation contracts)
  • We discuss a few more cases, in particular a new case about ‘disorganised comings and goings’ type tenancies, but
  • We no longer have the audios.

We have not discussed the Renters Reform Bill, as there is no guarantee that this will ever become law – if it is we will be doing further amends at that time.

If you are interested in the course, you can buy it online here.

There is going to be a substantial discount available to those taking our free legal update course, which we will be announcing in a couple of weeks’ time, so watch out for that.  If you are not signed up for the free course click here.

In the meantime, Landlord Law members get an automatic discount of 10% and can offset their Landlord Law points (although you cannot combine a coupon discount with points).
