Another new Kit, our Dealing with Death Kit

December 5, 2024

YDealing with Deathes, we have another new kit!

This kit is to help you if your tenant dies during the tenancy or (if you are an agent or property manager) if the landlord dies during the tenancy.

The kit was developed from my research preparing for my ‘Death in Tenancy’  Propertymark Course. I was originally going to write a long article but then decided that the ‘kit’ format would be more user-friendly.

Death of either the landlord or the tenant can be a very tricky situation, particularly for letting agents who find themselves, on the death of their landlord client, in a position where they have no authority to do anything!

In the kit we cover the following:

  • An introduction to the topic and looking at the terminology
  • The difference between tenancies and residential licenses and why this is important
  • The death of the landlord – including joint landlords, sole landlords and the position of their letting agents
  • Death of the tenant – looking at what to do if the property is empty, the succession rules, evicting an unwanted occupier and the role of the Public Trustee
  • Dealing with a deceased tenant’s possessions

The kit includes some ‘readers questions’ based on questions asked during training or in our Members Forum (anonymised!)

This kit is available to all Landlord Law members but is not available for sale as a separate product.

Members will find it with all our other kits or via the button below.
