Legal help, services and support for private residential landlords
Landlords and letting agents should take note that new ‘material information’ guidance has been issued by National Trading Standards UK on the information to be provided in property adverts.
This is the culmination of work which has been ongoing for some time in collaboration with various industry bodies and the property portals.
It was deemed necessary as practices varied across the country and it is important to have consistency and clarity on what actually is ‘material information’ to be included in property adverts.
Buying or renting a property is an important decision for anyone and purchasers and tenants should not be left to find things out once after they have committed to purchase or rent the property.
This new guidance should clarify matters and make it easier for landlords and agents to be compliant with the various consumer regulations which already exist.
The guidance is set out in a number of pdf documents which are all linked from this page.
All landlords should read the short guide for sellers and landlords.
If you are responsible for creating your own adverts, you should also read the guidance for letting agents, which sets out the requirements in more detail.
