Saving money with Landlord Law
If you are good with people
That’s good as managing property also means dealing with the tenants living there.
You will have to:
- Sum them up and assess whether they are going to be a good tenant
- Maintain a good relationship with them while they are your tenants, and
- Be tactful and sensitive when dealing with problem issues
However, its best not to be too friendly as this could make it difficult later – for example if they fall into arrears and you need to evict them. Be careful also not to antagonise them as hostile tenants can cause you all sorts of problems.
Maintain a friendly and helpful, but slightly distant and professional attitude and you should be fine. It’s probably best not to have any contact with them outside of your landlord and tenant relationship. Which is why it is better not to rent property to friends and family.
