The tenancy trail
Answer:
- If the landlord is a Local Authority, the tenancy will be a public sector secure tenancy governed by the Housing Act 1985.
- If the landlord is a social housing landlord, such as a housing association, then the tenancy will probably be either an assured tenancy, a public sector secure tenancy (for example if the tenancy was originally a Local Authority tenancy which has been transferred to a housing association) , or an assured shorthold tenancy.
This is known generally as ‘social housing’.
Social housing law and practice is not covered by Landlord Law which deals with the private rented sector only. You will find a general overview of social housing on the Landlord Law Blog here.
