Meter reading forms, and new versions for Wales

March 20, 2023

Electric MeterWith energy costs so high at the moment, the last thing you will want is a dispute over costs due from the tenant at the end of the tenancy.

Or, if the property is in Wales, the end of the contract.

This is why we created our Meter Reading Notification forms several years ago.  They are extremely useful as they will clarify the situation so there can be no argument.  There are two forms:

  • One for the start of the tenancy or contract, and
  • One to use at the end

The ‘start of tenancy/contract’ form will

  • Set out readings for electricity, water and (if needed) gas
  • The tenant’s signature will confirm that the figures given in the form are correct, and
  • Confirms the tenant’s agreement (for Data Protection purposes) for you to provide their contact details to the utility companies and the Local Authority
  • One tenant can sign on behalf of them all if there are more than one

In the ‘end of tenancy / contract form the tenants / contract holders will

  • Confirm the date of termination of the tenancy / contract
  • Agree the meter readings at that date
  • Confirm that they will notify the utilities accordingly and also  agree that the landlord can notify them
  • Give their forwarding address (always useful to have!)

We have now created versions of these forms for use in Wales with the new Welsh terminology.

  • Landlords in England should click the blue buttons, and
  • Landlords in Wales should click the green buttons

Landlord Law members will find the forms here.
