Saving money with Landlord Law
If you have plenty of time on your hands
Assuming you meet the other criteria, you are probably a good fit for managing the property yourself.
Many people find managing a small property portfolio an ideal retirement activity for example. It can also fit in well with looking after a young family – so long as you have somewhere you can leave them safely while you rush over to deal with an emergency.
However just having time is not enough – you need to know what you are doing. Which is where training and using the Landlord Law service can help.
For example:
- Try to attend our training courses – we run regular monthly training webinars for our Landlord Law members
- Buy some of our online training courses
- Follow our checklists carefully, especially if you are new to letting
- Use the Landlord Law services – for example, our guides on
- checking and referencing tenants
- data protection
- consumer law
- serving notices
- If you have an issue not answered by the site – ask a question in the forum
You should also consider:
- Joining a Landlords Association and attending their meetings
- Reading relevant books (the best one is probably David Lawrenson’s ‘Successful Property Letting‘)
- Subscribing to a landlord magazine (such as Property Investor News)
- Following landlord blogs such as the Landlord Law Blog or Property 118.
